Summary

The Controller shall hold responsibility for managing the overall financial operations of the company and will provide accurate information to the President, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial reports. The Controller will be responsible for directing and managing the company’s accounting functions, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting to top management. The Controller also maintains the company’s accounting systems and implements changes as required.

This is a hands-on position responsible for assisting in the preparation and analysis of the monthly and quarterly financial statements, cash flow forecasting, financial audits, and the management of accounts payable.

The primary job duties and responsibilities:

  • Consolidated quarterly and annual financial reports under IFRS
  • Regulatory reporting for Olympia Trust Company (SLIFI GST, ICAAP, AUF)
  • Coordinate the completion of the annual and interim external audits
  • Management of the finance and accounting team
  • Oversight of all banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger   entries and processes with support of the Senior Financial Accountant
  • Monthly financial reporting and close
  • Compliance with covenants and other ratios
  • Cash-flow management
  • Review and approval of monthly indirect tax filings and installments
  • Corporate tax calculations and estimates, and liaise with external tax preparation
  • Financial memos under IFRS
  • Prepare and present financial information for quarterly and annual reports
  • Provides advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis, and reporting
  • Assess controls, including systems security and segregation
  • Monitor regulatory requirements and other financial reporting updates
  • Manage resources and projects to ensure department goals are met within the appropriate time and budget
  • Good project management skills and the ability to motivate teams to produce quality work within tight timeframes
  • Other duties and tasks as required


Formal Education or Equivalent

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Management with a major in Accounting
  • CGA, CMA or CPA designation or equivalent


Years of Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of overall combined accounting, finance, and reporting experience
  • Financial industry experience in multiple corporate entities is an asset
  • Public practice experience is considered a major asset
  • Experience using Sage 300(Accpac) is an asset
  • Advanced level of Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook and Excel are required
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background and Reference check will be required
